Re: Sim unlock your TP2 for free
Tagged this thread to keep an eye on it... im sorry but im broke and staying with my mogul/tp2 and a jump to something cheaper (carrier) would be great... and FREE is great as well...
on the flip side of those who think the price is worth it, for me, its not, especially for 4 phones and my 40hr min wage job... Id love to see the paid unlocker dropped half price so I could get it for me and my family, oh that and timely support given (or just fix the broken stuff...), I say timely because an old co-worker did it about a year ago when I told him about it and had to wait almost 2 weeks to get a reply and get it working... and by looking at the unlocker thread... continues to be an issue even today...

I'm looking at other options too. It looks like the actual problem with the Sprint TP2 with USA GSM is not in the actual radio itself. I flashed the Sprint TP2 with Verizon ROM, which has the Verizon version of the radio, and it still did not work, if the Radio was the problem that would have unlocked it since Verizon's radio does not block US GSM frequencies. I think that the problem of locking out the US GSM radios on the Sprint TP2 is in the NV ram. What I found so far is that one of the frequencies of the US GSM is not assigned an antenna for broadcasting or receiving radio frequencies. I think that the reason it starts working after flashing a US Radio, when it is Security unlocked, is that the flashing of the radio by itself forces the firmware to update the NV ram and assign the spectrum TX/RX correctly thus making it work. So in addition to having an option of unlocking security and flashing a US radio, we might be able to just activate the spectrum TX/RX for US frequencies. I could be wrong but currently I think that that's what is happening. Last edited by ccengineer; 08-29-2011 at 12:44 PM. |

Re: Sim unlock your TP2 for free
Yes the US radio I was refering to was WU. But I don't think that the Radio itself is what frees the TX/RX of the US GSM frequencies. As I mentioned before, I installed a Verizon Rom which has the correct Radio that works with US carriers on the Sprint Phone but Still it did not pick up US GSM frequencies, which tells me that the actual locking is not in the Radio itself. NVram has assignments to each frequency used and from what I saw, it assigns TX/RX antennas to each frequency. I found that one of the frequencies used by US carriers was not assigned any Antenna, neither for transmission nor for reception. I played with one of the flags and it looks like the phone started to communicate, on limited bases, with the US GSM towers. I know because the Reception bar on top displayed a different message after I did that. So I think that If I can find all the NV items that should be adjusted we might be able to to turn On communication between the Sprint TP2 and GSM frequencies used by US carriers without the need to reflash a WU radio. I just did not have time to work on this last couple of weeks. I've been too busy. I wish I had a Verizon TP2 to compare NV items on both versions to see what is different, and I would have been able to test the SIM unlocking on the Verizon TP2 too. I'm trying to get a Verizon TP2 phone, off of ebay, but couldn't get one for a reasonable price so far.

Re: Sim unlock your TP2 for free
just saying , I've tried that and when I would apply the changes I would get a write fail claiming the items are read only . which nv items did you change ?

Yes the US radio I was refering to was WU You said a bunch there... just want to make sure you're not thinking the wu is the same as the 2.37 verizon radio code... rather the xda link I post earlier... Some confusion in the past from others, as the 2.37 verizon radio (unpatched version) works great on a sprint phone :>)) ... in fact, has solved some XDAndroid issues recently... but has nothing todo with unlocking Just to be clear
