Traveling outside U.S using different sim

I am currently traveling India. I have energy rom running and I bought local sim and it won't work. Phone goes into global mode AKA sprint $$$.

How can I get local sim working. I know I was able to do it when I was running old mighty roms.

after you put the SIM in, try going to: hit phone>menu>options>network.... now "Find" or "Set" your GSM network

I tried that and cannot locate any network, when select only gsm it says no network found. I have vodaphone sim and reliance phone goes into sprint mode.

I will have to try different rom only problem is internet here is extremely slow.
