try leaving the jack in, soft reset, pull jack out, another soft reset worked for me sometimes when the continuous plugging in and unplugging didnt work. I think its all a crap shoot and it goes away when it wants to...mine stuck that wayfor 2 days once.

sounds crazy, but try to dip just the very tip of your jack in rubbing alcohol and then sliding it in and out a few times.

this is exactly y i don't use the 3.5mm jack something like this is bound to happen. just keep doing what others suggested .

this happens because the 3.5 jack is designed for a 4 pin microphone headset. which should be backwards compatable with standard 3 pin jacks but for whatever reason the jack clogs up and the pins bind, telling the phone that something is still plugged in, when it really isn't. you can reset it manually with a small jewelers pick to move the contact back out
