"Launching HTC Sense..."

Well... not sure what's going on now with my TP2. But almost everytime I look at the screen I see, "Launching HTC Sense...". It does it when I try to connect to the Twitter tab. Then... my main clock goes to 0:00 and stays like that.

Anyone else have any suggestions? I have not installed ANY cabs, probably in 6-8 months.

Re: "Launching HTC Sense..."

are you by any chance using the stock 6.5 rom or any 21889 rom by any chance? when i ran that build i had a similar problem to this only that sometimes the device would freeze on that dialog requiring another soft reset or 2 to get back going again. having gotten fed up with this and the memory leak in 6.5 and 6.5.x i decided to goto a 6.1 rom, havent had the problem since, i guess the files for sense end up getting corrupted and decide to freeze the device

Re: "Launching HTC Sense..."

Just stock 6.5. But I've had it since the day 6.5 was officially relased... now recently this morning has it been a problem. Again... I've added nothing new... I've soft reset at least 7 times today. I've taken out the battery, etc. Just keeps doing it.

Re: "Launching HTC Sense..."

just to be sure, when you say nothing new, that includes replacing graphics by modifying manila files right? no new clock for example?

hate to say it but prolly you should backup and hard reset. if it keeps doing it you'll know it's hardware related and it's time to call insurance.

Re: "Launching HTC Sense..."

it has nothing to do with hardware. I had this same problem on the 21889 roms, since I downgraded to a 6.1 rom I haven't experienced that or anything similar so I'd recommend u try a 6.1 rom or a 219xx rom

Thanks for the recommendation... but I've had 6.5 for the longest time... hard to believe now it's an issue.

Re: "Launching HTC Sense..."

I started having the similar issue after a month on the stock 6.5, so try a 6.1 rom.

Re: "Launching HTC Sense..."

Mine wasn't that bad, but I've been having major issues with what I'm guessing is the Twitter tab. Sense was restarting on my every few minutes today. Found the Twitter data and deleted it and the problem seemed to stop. Look in \Temp\ and that is where the data should be stored for the Twitter tab. I deleted everything and it helped out. Not sure how it stores the tweets, but it could be that there are to many for Sense to handle and it's not smart enough to just delete the old tweets from the cache rather than trying to load them every time.

Re: "Launching HTC Sense..."

Great... I'm going to try this. So what exactly did you delete from the \Temp\ folder? "Everything" or something specific for Twitter? I bet that's the problem...

Re: "Launching HTC Sense..."

i dont know if it has anything to do with it, but twitter was having probles all day with various twit apps. this is from twitter support, and then from nrgz28 respectivly...

There is a Known Issue with the API that is causing some clients to crash. A fix is being deployed now. about 24 hours ago via web from Twitter HQ, San Francisco by troy

Damn it.. now my twitter tab is crashing Sense too! Twitter is lying, they didn't fix the API yet. My banner is still broken and so is Sense about 11 hours ago via web

Re: "Launching HTC Sense..."

Good to know... not that you're suffering too, but... that I'm not alone and don't have to hard reset to get it back... THANKS!

Re: "Launching HTC Sense..."

I just got stuck at launching htc sense too, it seems to happen for a variety of reasons. I got it after trying to recover a backup made using SKtools.

I searched threads and saw one guy getting it when he ran a certain theme (fix was not run that theme anymore)... another when he ran a certain rom (but just one or two soft resets and sense finally loads)... another with some unhappy tab (Reader or something... the fix was to remove that tab and a windows .xml file associated with it)... another guy suggested deleting ManilaFull.xml from \windows, another said delete Application Data\HTC\databases from your storage card.

My personal fix, using sheer dumb noob instinct, was to reinstall cookie home tab. On the next reboot all was well.

So basically, yeah, you got a lot of stuff you can try. Most of them involve removing tabs or deleting something that sense is freaking out about.

I deleted the TwitEng folder, though it is a temp folder, so you should be able to delete everything with little side effects. You may need to re-update something or log in for something again, but that would be all I could see happening if you deleted everything.

the 21889 theory is false. ive been running that build on a custom rom ive made for months with no issues

I've been running 6.5 stock Sprint for months. Never a problem. Now twitter is giving me the same problem the OP described. I'll give it a few days to see if it resolves itself.

ANNNNNDDDD... it's not working again. Now it's saying, "Download error"... the account was forbidden to access the twitter service.

Re: "Launching HTC Sense..."

This may not apply to your problem but it fixed my issue after installing and then later uninstalling CHT (cookies home tab).

I got this from their FAQ's:
"Q: After uninstaling CHT, sense doesn't work, or it works but the home menu doesn't come up.
A: Copy \windows\home_pages.xml to \windows\manilaxml\home_pages.xml (overwrite existing file). Then delete \windows\manilafull.xml and soft reset."

This worked for me twice.
The first thing I do is go to SETTINGS->HOME(Today)-->ITEMS
Uncheck HTC SENSE click OK.
Make these changes, I use TOTAL COMMANDER. REBOOT. CHECK HTC Sense again and it loads fine.
I hope this helps.
