Garmin XT voice directions through call mode using BT

Hi there guys,

I am looking for a solution to get my garmin gps directions over my bluetooth phone connection as it works with a call.

However to make it a bit clearer to understand I will examplify the situation.

My phone connections to my Sony Xplod audio system through bluetooth. I can make and receive calls even if i'm listening to music as the system switches onto call (whatever mode its called).

When I am using my Garmin XT software on my TP2 it does however give voice commands but are only heard through the system if i switch to bluetooth mode but not in normal mode like a phone call would.

I am looking for a software which would probably fool the phone to think t hat its a phone call and hence it would make the instructions audible in any mode. (tuner/aux/cd.. etc)

I wouldn't bother asking if I knew what to look for as in a search string. Unfortunately I could really find the right terms to look for or were a bit too vague.

Pls assist if you know either 1. the solution 2. the right search string (if ur too busy/lazy to help me with the search)

Thanks in advance.
Krator

This worked for me on my Mogul, so I think it will work on the TP2 as well. Run it once to send all sound to Bluetooth, and run it again to send it to the phone.

So does this work only through a BT headset, or would this work through my car's BT?

I don't have Bluetooth in my car, but if your phone sees your car as a Bluetooth headset, I would think it should work.

It doesn't have an interface to open, it just toggles where the sound goes. As I said, "Run it once to send all sound to Bluetooth, and run it again to send it to the phone."

Re: Garmin XT voice directions through call mode using BT

hmm i tried it today, it didn't really work. do u know if it really sends all bluetooth sounds to the device in a call mode kinds. the only thing that disconnects the audio/cd mode and switches to bluetooth whilst in the mode (unless switched to bluetooth mode) is a phone call. However, if i switch to the bluetooth audio all the sounds of bluetooth are heard through audio just like a bluetooth headset (as there is a audio device option too inbuilt in my music system). I wonder if i've clearly stated my problem

Thanks

Re: Garmin XT voice directions through call mode using BT

i've found the technical terminology:

A2DP to HFP (which is supported for phone calls when stereo/tuner'z working)

Didnt get too lucky with that search tho nothing recent anyway

If I understand what you're saying, yes when active, it "toggles" to send all sound to Bluetooth or not. So you run it when you want this, and run it again when you want the sound back to your phone.

Re: Garmin XT voice directions through call mode using BT

Are you perhaps wanting to have the audible directions from the GPS software override any other audio source you may be listening to at the same time? Have the GPS in the background, listen to music, then have the directional commands "break through" the music?
