gps tracking w/ no cell service

hey all, i was wondering if it were possible to do GPS tracking with a TP2 that is not activated?
(in the US)

**UPDATE**
for those curious, GPS tracking is possible with a tp2 w/o service. i wifi updated gps satellites (don't think you "HAVE TO", but just to be on the safe side)
and i installed "GPS Sport Tracker". and clicked the "play" button. then exported to gpx file. google earth was able to import it w/o a prob.
i tested it in my glove box for an hour, and then in my dresser at home under some clothes. the whole time it seemed to keep a good lock on GPS.

also, is there a way to change the subject title on here to add "*UPDATE*"?

and thank you to those that gave input on this

I dont think that answered his question.

I think you can try SmartPhoneTracker

You might be able to set it up to send the location via email.....keep in mind the phone would need an internet connection of some type.....

You might be better off buying a prepaid phone card with text messaging ability......in an unlocked phone...

You might also be very careful... What you are doing might be illegal.

If you want a better solution than an unactivated TP2.... (the follow is NOT my auction!)

ahh shoot. my apologies. i read it too fast and missed the part where you mentioned "TRACKING". I'm not aware of any that will work without a cell or data connection.

Don't trust your girl, huh?

might need to hardwire a charger into the car so the phone doesn't die after several hours of tracking.

do you need live tracking (which would require a gps device with some sort of data connection, cellphone or otherwise, to get live position update evry so often on the web)

or would y be interested in a gps recorder device which records data to memory over the day and then at the end of the day you just get the device, coonect it to your computer and downld the gps data and load that into google earth to display the route and positions along the route? some of these devices actually have motion sensor to only turn on when moving so that their battery can last up to a wk.

you probably can already guess the advatage and disadvantage of each solution and which one is cheaper easier to implement, etc....

i'm not worried about live tracking, just need to know "where it's been".
