Cant turn off the screen lock option, never turned it on in the first place.

Had the phone bouncing around in my shorts pocket and before I know it the screen lock was on. Its oem 6.1 with Mobile Shell. Every time I hit the power button and put the phone into sleep mode even for 1 second, when I wake it up its locked. There is an unlock on the bottom left that I have to hit, then the screen turns grey and I have to "tap" the unlock button on the middle right of the screeen.

Thing is I never turned it on, and I cant figure out how to turn it off.

At some point perhaps you installed SmartLock and it has the Suspend Lock setting present but the phone may have been rebooted only recently (at which point it kicked in). Uncheck "suspend lock"

Never installed any lock of any kind.

There must be some registry entry stuck or something....I dont get it.
Need help, this is annoying.

I just noticed that if I open the keyboard when its in sleep, it turns on just fine and is not locked.
If I use the power button, the screen is locked and I have to tap unlock.

I am betting that smartlock is installed and you just didnt realize it. it comes standard on some roms. Look under settings. system settings. The app is called SmartLock.

He does not have a custom ROM installed.

Backup and hard reset. Bingo, you are fixed. If not, then you had hardware issue and it is time to call Sprint.

Is there a chance a backup will backup the problem?

I wonder if there is something in the registry that is jacked.
