Lots of files in Windows Folder - Space Decreasing - Please Help!

I have a TP2 running the stock Sprint 6.5 ROM and I have not installed anything new recently. I noticed that my free space went from about 50+ MB to about 25 MB on its own over the course of the last few months.

When I look at TreeSize Mobile, it tells me that most space used is in the Windows folder (not a huge surprise) but it also indicates there are ~9500 files in the main Windows folder alone (not incl subfolders). First off, is that normal? How many files are in your Windows folder?

When I look at the files, a bunch start with numbers. Some look like registry entry names (ie, xx-xxxxxx-xxx-xxx) and a lot have a number followed by "_manila". What are these? Is there a tool or safe way to clean this stuff up?

Any help would be appreciated as I am not sure what is happening to my free space at the moment.

Why you still on the stock ROM?

I have 9661 files in the windows folder so i'd say its normal. If its followed by _manila then its needed by manila which is Sense/TouchFlo whatever you call it. The dissappearing space is probably just cache from various programs like browsers or bing, pretty much anything that uses the internet. SKTools can find and delete this stuff or just go in the programs and clear cache.

I would strongly recommend against just deleting things out of your windows folder, thats where most everything is stored to make your phone run. for example, the _manila files are for the Sense interface, if you started just deleting those it would would make your phone very very unhappy.

there are a few programs out there that you can use to clean things up, cleanRAM, SKtool's, Pocket Mechanic and so forth.

The reason I am on the stock rom is because I use this phone to support other family members with the TP2 and I don't want to move everyone away from the stock ROM - would just confuse them as they like the stock ROM.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to check those programs out to help with cache file, etc cleanup. I never intended on deleting a bunch from the Windows folder unless I found that there were a lot of temp files/useless leftover files there. 9K files seemed ridiculous, but it sounds like it might be a normal thing on the TP2.

If anyone else has suggestions or comments feel free to leave more replies.

Thanks!

Re: Lots of files in Windows Folder - Space Decreasing - Please Help!

+1 on stock ROM. don't let anyone push you around about that, particularly considering all the issues people are having with the unlocker these days, LOL. I'm on stock 6.5 with the old style 6.1 today screen and the phone is fast and crazy stable.

I second the recommendation on cache files. Go into Pocket IE and opera and delete your caches...IE cache in particular can really pile up IIRC from earlier devices. The TP2 generally has enough memory that it's not an issue, but if you do a lot of surfing and never clear it, I can imagine it'll add up.

How would flashing a custom rom confuse anyone? Most custom roms are the same as the stock rom in terms of how they are setup the bonus is they come with lots of extra goodies and are generally faster plus they are updated with the latest stuff from microsoft and you get way more available memory. If you want something really close to stock and stable as stock i would recommend the mightyrom. but be warned once you enter the world of flashing its like crack you just wanna try them all lol. and if you hate them all then you can just flash back to the stock rom and its like it never happened good luck
