Can VZW TP2 w/ MightyROM be used on AT&T?

The answer, apparently, is yes and no. By forcing GSM in the phone settings, I can get the phone to work. What I'm having trouble with is data.

Some history: I've been with at&t since they were AT&T. I had an AT&T branded Tilt (TyTn II, Kaiser, whatever you want to call it) that I never used for data. Then I got a VZW TP2 real cheap from Craig's List. The seller said to put in my SIM and I could get phone and EDGE, but no 3G. At the time I didn't have or want a data plan, so I didn't care about the 3G so long as the phone worked, and it did, so I bought it. Further research showed that it had MightyRom on it. Now comes a time when data would be nice to have, so I got a data plan. Problem is, the phone won't connect. When I try to kick the data connection on the TP2, I get a message stating that "The answering modem has disconnected." I put the SIM back in the Tilt, and I get data no problem, 1.5Mbps.

The Tilt connection's modem entry reads 'Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)', has an APN of 'wap.cingular', a username of 'WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM', an obfuscated password (which from reading other threads seems to be 'CINGULAR1'), and no place to put a dialup number. By comparison, the TP2 dials #777, no place to put an APN. Under 'Select a Modem' it reads 'Cellular Line'. If I try to create a new connection, 'Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)' is not on the list. I've seen '*99***1#' suggested as a dialup number in other forums, but that didn't help either.

To their credit, at&t did try to help, even though it wasn't their phone. The tech had me try a different dialup number that also didn't work. She didn't seem to know what she was talking about, wanting me to clear my browser cache to get a data connection to work. At least she was friendly

The phone is a global model, and I checked the specs, it does have both GSM and UMTS at the right frequencies for AT&T. I feel like this is a simple configuration issue rather than an incompatibility. Can I convince Windows to give me the 'Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)' as an option somehow? Any other suggestions for making this work?
