oil slick

Looks like I have the "Oil Slick" issue with my TP2 (VZW).

Should I flash back to stock before taking the phone over to them? Chances are they'll have to mail me a new one (if I can get them to replace it; I've had this phone for close to a year). If I have to send the old one back, could they try to charge me for the replacement if they find a custom ROM?

Have people had better luck dealing directly with the Verizon stores, or calling CS?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Aaron

Re: oil slick

I've been through this issue 4 times in the past year. You can either take to VZW or call customer service. Either way works. Whatever you do, they will mail you replacement refurb (takes 3 days). I would just run over to VZW if its close instead of calling unless you wanna try and complain and get a different device. I wouldn't flash back and relock until you need to mail it in. But DEFINITELY do that before you send it back.

Re: oil slick

ALWAYS flash back to stock and relock before bringing it in or shipping it in. They can deny your warranty for that and you'd have to pay insurance deductible instead of getting it fixed for free.

ahhh...QMeli beat me to it.

Re: oil slick

I brought mine in yesterday because it had a faulty charging port and I had a full version of 6.5 with Sense 2.5 with all the home tabs and everything. The lady didnt know the difference. You SHOULD flash it to a stock rom before even bringing in though. I was just going on luck and if the lady would have denied it I would have flashed back and went to a different store. Up to you though

Re: oil slick

Yeah, I'm hoping since this a physical problem and not OS related that they won't be able to tell. Most of them at my Verizon store have never even seen a TP2. Hell, I may not even have to turn the screen on.

I'll definately flash and re-lock before sending in the old one. Guess I'll have to start looking for instructions on how to do that...

Thanks guys!

Re: oil slick

Just got my 3rd TP2... Sprint guys at the store tried to tell me it wasn't an issue and they weren't replacing it...

They are so useless.

Re: oil slick

Since Verizon doesn't carry the TP2 in stores, most of the employees have never seen or worked with them before, so if you bring in a TP2 with a flashed rom, most won't even know the difference.

flashing the stock rom and flashing the relocker is the same as flashing a custom rom.

Re: oil slick

Got a new one on the way! The CS agent at the store had the first rep he talked to tell him that it must have been damaged by me and wanted me to file an insurance claim even though he said this was obviously defective. So he just called back and talked to a different rep!

He was poking around on my phone while he was on hold and I was getting kink of nervous. Then as I was ready to leave he winked and said "Make sure you flash back to stock before sending that one back."! I'll make sure I talk to that guy from now on!

I appreciate all the help!
