Solved!!! Could someone explain the Activesync "faster data" setting?

Here's my question....

There is a checkbox in the USB to PC settings for Activesync labeled "Enable faster data synchronization" . It's on by default. Once upon a time I could connect with that setting checked on my Windows 7 PC, but not my XP machine. So, I assumed the protocol wasn't supported by XP Activesync but was supported by Windows Mobile Device Center in Windows 7.

Then suddenly I couldn't connect to my Windows 7 box either unless I unchecked the "faster" option. This is a bummer because it really is faster. I wish I could remember exactly when it stopped working, but now it doesn't work on either the stock sprint 6.5 rom or any of the custom roms I have played around with (Mighty or Vin's roms mostly).

Could anyone tell me definitively what happened to change the behavior or what is required to use the "faster" option in activesync?

Thanks

Re: Could someone explain the Activesync "faster data" setting?

OK, I found something that could help a lot of us using WMDC. I don't think this would help anyone using ActiveSync. Following these instructions allowed me to use the faster connection settings that stopped working many months ago.

"
*
Keep your device connected
*
From the desktop, go to Start > Start Search
*
Enter "Device Manager" or "devmgmt.msc" to launch the Device Manager window
*
Look under the "Network adapters" node for "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter". If this is not present, skip to step 5. Otherwise, right-click "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" and choose to "Uninstall"
*
Look under the "Mobile Devices" node for "Microsoft USB Sync". If this is not present, skip to step 6. Otherwise, right-click "Microsoft USB Sync" and choose to "Uninstall"
*
Disconnect and reconnect your device set to "Enable faster data syncronization". Your device driver will re-install and Windows Mobile Device Center will launch."

What I think happened to me was that the driver for the slower type of connection was installed on my PC, once that happened it wouldn't make a faster connection. Deleting that driver and reconnection in the faster mode forced the PC to reinstall the faster driver. I found the information at:

I've just tried to no avail, I am going to give it a go again in a few.
