Deleting gmail emails just "archives" them

I have all me emails forwarded to my gmail accounta and my TP2 is activesynced to that one gmail account for email service.

Here's the problem, if I delete an email from my phone, it doesn't actually get deleted. It just get's "archived" in the gmail sense. In other words, it just gets taken out of the inbox but doesn't go to trash. Rather it sits around and is accessible from the "All mail" option inside gmail.

This is especially annoying when dealing with emails I delete without actually opening them. They get "archived" but are still unread so when I search for unread messages inside gmail later, all the emails I previously deleted show up.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Re: Deleting gmail emails just "archives" them

not me.. I too have been using google sync since I got my tp2, and mine behaves the same way when deleting emails from phone. I usually just have to remember togo to gmail once a week.. select all unread from all mail, then delete them from the web.

given the fact that gmail seems think every email ever received should be saved for future searching, I would bet this is just how google decides to handle the delete function within the active sync protocol.

would really be nice if google had a setting for how to handle deleting of emails from synced devices.

sorry I was of no help.

In Outlook (Inbox):
Menu --> Tools --> Options --> select gmail account --> Send Receive Schedule --> Advanced --> Set "Delete from server" intead of "Move to Trash".

Press Ok about 20 times and you should be set.

Okay in options I don't have a "Gmail" option..it's under "Outlook Email".

Clicking on that takes me to server settings with a "cancel" and "next" option which just takes you through the rest of the server settings. When it comes to the page where it asks you what you want to sync, going to to email options only let's me pik message format, download size and encryption options.

What ROM? The settings I am referncing are present under 6.5.x ROMS. The name Gmail would be specific to whatevery you named it. I do not remember the setting being present before 6.5.x.

Re: Deleting gmail emails just "archives" them

I think we have it setup differently. I think you're connected through IMAP, i'm using microsoft exchange to link with gmail. That way it does my calendar and contacts too.
