I use the same settings as sjs01 described on my stock Sprint 6.5 ROM - works just fine.

these settings should work on 6.5, its working for me on 6.5.x but it does NOT work for my hotmail email address

go into your inbox of any email client you have..you have 3 options when you hit menu> tools>options and select any of your email clients..

this is not a 6.1 only feature.. screenshots provided.. stock 6.5 here

To make sure my own settings worked, I flashed back to the stock 6.5 ROM, and will post pictures to show how to do this.

You should just be able to follow the pictures:

You can also:
Select Mail from the slider bar > Menu > Accounts > Accounts > Select Account you want > Menu > Tools > Options > Tap the Account > Change your settings
