Opera Mobile 10 Runnig W/ a Safari Mobile String
I successfully changed the custom user agent on Opera Mobile 10 to the iphone's browser because most websites are designed to run on the iphone - and honestly they look better and run better.
The issue I have is when I'm viewing a site, it doesn't fit on my TP2 screen, I have to move it around to be able to see all the info on the screen. I have included some screen shots for a better explanation and understanding. HOW CAN I FIX THIS? HOW CAN I MAKE OPERA MOBILE 10 SHOW ME THE WEBSITE FIT TO SCREEN? The TP2 screen resolution is 480x800. I compared a couple of screen shots to see if I can figure this out, but I'm not a developer or programmer. Can someone help? Thank you. I enter the iphone browser string onto the opera mobile user prefs. especifically in "custom User Agent" I works beautifully, except the pages don't fit on my TP2. WHEN I GET HOME FROM WORK I'M GONNA PASTE HERE THE STRING I USED. |

That would be sweet, I would love to know how you did it.

if you want to use safari, why not get an iphone? they showed in spain that the opera browser on the iphone is faster than safari is.

This is how to do it: 1- open opera mobile 10 2 - on the navigation bar type: "opera:config" and hit go or enter. 3 - Go all the way to "user prefs" and click on it. 4 - Look for 'custom user agent' (it shold be blank) 5 - and write the following string code: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1A542a Safari/419.3 6 - Save it and close the configuration window, that's all. |
Re: Opera Mobile 10 Runnig W/ a Safari Mobile String
It's just a function of different device resolutions and the zooming in Opera. You can probably get close if you play with the default zoom options.

There must be a way either by registry hack or hex code manipulation to achieve this. I know that the code within the browser scripts tell the site what type of resolution the phone is running on, some sites resize themselves beautifully, but others don't. Can we get some Safari / Opera experts up in this joint? |

*Remember this is Opera 10 emulating the Safari browser, in other words tricking the websites. |
Re: Opera Mobile 10 Runnig W/ a Safari Mobile String
if you set the zoom level to 80% it works good.

I'm currently using the 80% zoom, it's the only way that works for now. |
Re: Opera Mobile 10 Runnig W/ a Safari Mobile String
And guys FYI you can do it also for the IE mobile, and IE does resize the pages automatically - thing of beauty!
I'll soon post the steps you need to take for the change. |
Re: Opera Mobile 10 Runnig W/ a Safari Mobile String
I can't believe so many people are just figuring out how to change the string. We've been this for years. anybody who had no idea about changing strings needs to thank the op.

Thanks for this, I can finally login to my Citibank account on my TP2. It finally opens up the mobile page due to the string change.
