Need some help with HTC Touch Pro 2 and web based mail

I use a web based mail called Netaddress. They support Pop3 and IMAP. I've had them for almost 10 years now and keep a lot of my emails I'd say most are in the main inbox but a few I actually moved around to sub folders. Originally I set up my phone as IMAP but I didn't realize deleting a message on my phone deleted it from the web based mail too, so I switched to Pop3.

Now I'm having a few issues, last week it was taking 5-10 minutes to search for new email and occasionally it would just hang, it would sit at Looking for changes or Disconnecting forever. I wasn't even able to remove the Email account until I reset the phone. Today I re-added it hoping that it was just a fluke, I hit send/receive and it told me it was checking 5600 headers (I'm guessing all t he emails I have saved) the funny thing is it was randomly d/ling some emails to the phone some as old as 2003. It got to about 3000/5000 (15 minutes) and then said sync failed and all the ones it had d/led disappeared.

Am I doing something wrong? I basically want this to work like my older dumb phones, where I can sync for emails whenever I want, it should only d/l new emails, maybe keeping a max of the last 15-20 on the phone and each time I get new mail the old ones are deleted and the new ones are added.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Need some help with HTC Touch Pro 2 and web based mail

the reason it may be hanging is because you are trying to download 10yrs worth of your emails. . if you are downloading the whole email, your device might be running out of memory....but i do stand corrected on this though. again, it may just be the simple fact of the amt of emails you are trying to get in your phone.

as far as deleting them on the device and its getting deleted from the server, you need to change your settings. Start> Messaging> Menu (right softkey)> Tap on the email acct> Send/Receive Schedule> Advanced Settings. you can choose in there whether it deletes message from server or not when you delete it on your phone. send/receive screen is also where you can tell your phone which messages to dl.

hope this helps!

Thanks, I have that option checked, but the phone is also set to only download mail from "today" so why is it even checking mail with dates other then that?

Re: Need some help with HTC Touch Pro 2 and web based mail

Tried deleting the account, have also emailed the email provider and HTC. Neither of them are really sure, but the provider thinks it could be because there are so many emails in the inbox. HTC was less then helpful and kept telling me to do a reset.

i havent ever had an issue with number of emails. you can set max number of emails shown...i use 50. but i did have an issue with checking and hang time and ended up backing up everything doing a hard reset and re adding my account after that it worked fine. good luck hope you figure it out.

Re: Need some help with HTC Touch Pro 2 and web based mail

I know the exact problem but not the solution. This is when the problem occurs:
At night 12:00 AM when outlook tries to clear the previous days messages before disconnecting, it somehow fails and gets stuck while doing it; blocking the email scheduler. My emails are stored on the main memory. Not sure what the problem is. I am using Gmail IMAP.
