Hi All! Newbie here getting an education!

Glad I stumbled onto this forum!! Been reading for days already. I have so much to learn!
Already installed a few cabs... getting more comfortable tweaking but not ready to flash the ROM yet...

Reason for my research was slow performance on my us cellular TP2. I knew it was time to get serious about fixing this thing when I finally had the urge to spike it into the ground the other day... It just lags. Sometimes worse than others, but just slow overall.

My memory usage is usually in the 80's with nothing open. Is this normal?
I still havent really found anything I can do to free up resources with the stock ROM. I dont have much installed at all.
I'll keep reading, but any tips or links you think would help are appreciated!
Thanks!!

WM 6.5, 528MHz, ROM version 2.01.573.3, Radio version 2.18.00WV

Once you make the jump to flashing you will be much much more happier. Could not imagine running the stock ROM on the TP2, what a waste. Unlock that bad boy and get to work!

have you installed the no push internet cab? because one of the major memory hog is opera's push internet.

Yea when you flash (i prefer mighty roms but most others are pretty good too) you will have useless programs and apps running. you will notice the difference when you flash its not that bad just follow the directions to a tee and you will be fine. The forum is always helpful so ask questions anytime. the crowd yells :: "FLASH IT, FLASH IT" GOOD LUCK EITHER WAY

Re: Hi All! Newbie here getting an education!

I love stock, and no i'm not knocking the chefs here i have tried some of them and they have some great stuff, but i like having my stability of a stock rom till the chefs get it all worked out, I may go back to a custom one day.

That being said, what cab's have you used im running sprint stock 6.5 and with a few tweaks and cab's i'm running at about 61 to 70% and using RamSweeper to clear it up when it gets past that instead of Clean ram cause it kept freezing up on me.

You'll definitely want to make the jump to flashing a custom ROM. Check out the TP2 upgrades forum and start reading up on the HSPL unlocker and the various things you'll need to do to make sure you enjoy your TP2 to the fullest.

Re: Hi All! Newbie here getting an education!

Thanks for the responses so far! I'll get ram sweeper and the no push internet going. I did install opera. As far as other cabs, all I've done is disable SMS sent, all camera modes, and installed PHM registry editor. This was just in the last few days.

I do want to try a new ROM regardless. I just need to find what I need to do to get it back up and running afterwards... My understanding is flashing the ROM wipes out everything so I'll need to set it back on on the network. Right now I have no idea what that entails... but I'm searching and learning!

Actually, once the device is activated, you can flash as many times as you want and you won't need to activate it again. You will, however, need to provision the device, which most chefs have applications that do it for you. Check out MightyRom, many people seem to like that one. You shouldn't notice much downtime at all. Just make sure you backup your contacts and whatnot first!

Re: Hi All! Newbie here getting an education!

I gotta agree with all. I, too, just started flashing after been scared for so long, but I got tired of the lagging Stock ROM. I have only tried a few Custom ROMs. So far, I like MightyROM.....frees up a lot of memory and the speed is ridiculous! Definitely check the TP2 CDMA Upgrades section and you'll find everything you need, including how to go back to Stock ROM. Have fun flashing!
