Storage space still missing after uninstalls

Hello Group

I often install programs, decide I don't like them, and then uninstall them. But after doing that, I never seem to get back anywhere near the space that installing the program took. I've looked all over for places where this space might be "hiding".. the Application Data folder, the My Documents folder, the Program Files folder, the Windows folder. Often I do find something (and don't worry, it's always pretty obvious, as in a folder with the exact title of the uninstalled program). But there's always quite a lot that I just can't recover. Yes I know I can just hard reset and rebuild the device (and when I do I wind up finding 10 to 20 or MORE MB more free space), but thats a PAIN I'd like to avoid if I can. If anyone has some ideas on where else to look for files (or if the problem has to do with missing storage space that just comes from creating/deleting/creating/deleting files), I'd appreciate it.

Thanks to all.

Re: Storage space still missing after uninstalls

not sure what the issue is because i do the same thing and my storage space goes back to before i installed an app/game! so ur best bet is to check for "hidden" file thru file explorer and delete it... on the phone u can use Total Commander...

Re: Storage space still missing after uninstalls

Try installing more to the Storage card and see how much you recover from that on an uninstall.

Try memmaid and it may help clean up some of the stuff. It's a pay app but you get 14 day free trial. You can click different items for it to clean up a lot of garbage that's just hanging around on the phone.

Can I use it to get rid of those useless NFL and nascar preinstalled junk?

For sure some programs do - but some for sure DON'T. Which leads me to believe files are "hiding" some place. And yes I do have the option to "show all files" set in Explorer (I use Total Commander anyway)

I may take a look at that. I just don't like "memory cleaners" in general (although I do understand the need for them) because it just reminds me too much of Windows 3.x I've found they don't clean up enough memory to be useful unless you let them reset Manilla, and at that point you just might as well soft reset the thing. But if this program will let me clean up storage space too it might be useful to me,

Thanks!

Nope, Total Commander. But if there is such a thing as a "hidden recycle bin" where is it? I'd like to see what is or isn't in there.

Looks like a nice tool. But what I'm looking for is not so much *where* my space is going, but *what* is using the space and does it have to?
