Information on Exchange ActiveSync?
I did some Googling and am still confused as to what Exchange ActiveSync actually is, why I would need it and how and where to install it. I assume it gives me the ability to get email pushed to my TP2 phone. My email is from Optimum Online and Gmail so I am not sure how this would work or if it is possible. Is this only for a corporate network or is it something the 'Home user' can benefit from?
Any help or links would be appreciated. Mike |
Re: Information on Exchange ActiveSync?
ActiveSync was the classic name given to the Sync ability on Windows Mobile. The primary feature was the ability to Sync emails and Contacts with Outlook on the computer.
Exchange-ActiveSync was the extention of ActiveSync on the phone to bypass the computer and sync email and contacts directly with the Exchange server (if supported by the user's email). This name is a misnomer now as Microsoft licenses the protocol used so Exchange is no longer needed for Exchange-ActiveSync. As such, Gmail does support it. So think of it as Exchange-ActiveSync is the built in way to sync your device's email, contacts, texts, notes, tasks, and calendar with a server over-the-air. |

Re: Information on Exchange ActiveSync?
Ok. So other than configuring my TP2 there is nothing for me to set up. My email provider needs it running on their server for me to take advantage of it. Nothing runs on my pc. Tried it with gmail and it worked perfect.
Thanks for the help guys! |
Re: Information on Exchange ActiveSync?
Hmmm...seems to have stopped working now. Keeps asking for my password. When I enter it and try to sync it asks again for my password and never gets my mail. I even tried resetting my password on the Gmail website. Still doesn't work. When I go to 'check status' it says my password is incorrect.
