Bluetooth hangs up when dialing

Ok TP2 masters,

Heres a tough one for you. It appears no one else is having this issue. I recently flashed to Mighty ROM 1-10-10 version. Phone is working awesome, one issue though I have one bluetooth device (my JVC truck stereo) that does not play well with the bluetooth. As soon as I start dialing a number either from the phone or by selecting a number from the stereo, it starts to dial, rings once, then ends the call. All of my other bluetooth devices work perfectly and even the bluetooth hang up issue from the stock rom is fixed but now I can't make phonecalls while connected to my truck.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Bluetooth hangs up when dialing

Just to add that my TP2 works fine with my other car kit (Motorola) with no issues and also was working fine with stock Telus Rom and earlier releases of MM.

Re: Bluetooth hangs up when dialing

I'm also seeing this issue on my TP2. I know I've seen it on every 6.5.x ROM I've tried, and I believe also on every 6.5 ROM (though I'm not sure about that).

Incorrect behavior
The symptom I see is as described in the first post. No matter how I attempt to make a call (dial a number from the stereo, dial a number from the phone, answer an incoming call from either the stereo or the phone) the call drops after about 5 seconds of being connected.

Bluetooth for Windows Mobile Version 1.9.2 shows this problem (either Build 200 like is in NRG or Build 500 like is in MightyROM). Earlier versions of Bluetooth for Windows Mobile (like the one that came with the stock Verizon 6.1 ROM) work fine with the JVC unit.

I had taken some notes which I can't find, but I could flash the stock VZW ROM to get the bluetooth version from it if that would be useful. I believe it was 1.7.8, but I could be wrong.

Car hardware
  • Head unit: JVC KW-NX7000BT (which is a KW-NX7000 stereo packaged with the JVC KS-BTA200 bluetooth adapter).
  • Works fine with my wife's LG vx8350 phone - I can pair and place/receive calls using the JVC unit, so I know it's at least doing something right.

Phone software
Most recently, I'm seeing this exact issue on MightyROM 012010, Energy.RHOD500.23518.StandardM2.5_MaxManila_25.Jan .2010, and the "official" Verizon 6.5 upgrade

Phone hardware
Verizon Touch Pro 2
Stock Verizon radios

I'm really tempted to go back to the stock Verizon 6.1 ROM. It really sucks after I've used MightROM and NRG's 6.5/6.5.x work, but I really can't stand not having bluetooth working in my car and I'm not up for shelling out $700+ for a new navigation unit to workaround this issue.

Re: Bluetooth hangs up when dialing

I'm having a similar problem w/ a JVC headunit, but I'm using the stock Sprint 6.1 ROM. I also tried a Treo800 running WM 6.1 and it works as it should.
For me, whenever I dial or receive a call, it drops bluetooth connection immediately, but doesn't drop the call (I can still use the phone itself).
What's odd though, is if I'm connected to the head unit playing audio files, then the headset profile works as it should.

Additionally, xda forums had a similar thread, and showed some registry hacks that I tried, but didn't work for me.
Original thread here (post count not high enough to post links, sheesh):
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591322

hacks summarized here (I modified some of the notes for the settings on my phone):
Quote:
1. Install a local Registry Editor

2. Enable RAPI and user provided certificates so a registry editor will work

i. Navigate to HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\
ii. Click "Values" soft-key
iii. Change "00001001" value to 1 (decimal) (recovery note: default is 2)
iv. Change "00001005" value to 40 (decimal) (recovery note: default is 16)

3. Reboot device.

4. Modify the HandsFree plug-in:

HKLM\Software\WIDCOMM\Plugin\HandsFree
i. Change SupportedFeatures to 45 (recovery note: default is 1383)
ii. Add value HFBDA binary, set to same value as LastConnectedBda
iii. Add value HFDeviceType decimal 2

5. Modify the WIDCOMM bluetooth general settings:

HKLM\Software\WIDCOMM\BtConfig\General
i. Change bdaddr to (no value) (on my phone, this keeps resetting itself to its default after a soft reset)
ii. Add value DisableReopenAudio decimal 0 (recovery note: some phones have this key already, with default decimal value 1)

6. Reboot device
EDIT: OK, I found I have Version 1.9.0 build 4800.

Re: Bluetooth hangs up when dialing

Im glad I'm not the only one! Just to update: Mr. X 2-18-10 rom has this issue as well. All of my other bluetooth headsets work flawlessly but for some reason the bluetooth adapter for my stereo does not play nicely. It knows the phone is dialing or ringing, my phonebook uploads perfectly but it disconnects after 1 second regardless. Very annoying!

Re: Bluetooth hangs up when dialing

Another interesting note, "Mr. X 12-23-09 1.6.5 Rhodium" ROM's bluetooth worked flawlessly with my JVC, however it the ROM was too unstable so I flashed to MIGHTY's ROM. I can't find the ROM's thread to see what bluetooth stack he used then vs now...
