Skype & Speakerphone Default...Damn iPhone

I know that Skype had changed the audio to come through the speakerphone by default and that there is an older version probably still kicking around where it comes through the earpiece on the phone.

I had a buddy test Skype on his iPhone and he said it came through the earpiece......wtf???

What's up with that and is there a hack to make it come through the earpiece????

Try AudioRoute. Works great for me.

Re: Skype & Speakerphone Default...Damn iPhone

Seems a bit buggy.

So what is the process for this app for teeing up a call or if someone calls you?

I can't get it to go through the earpiece. I hit the earpiec icon but no sound comes from anywheres.

But I don't want to use a Bluetooth headset.

The point is to be able to use it like a regular phone with the audio coming through the phone earpiece not the speakerphone.

Also, if this was a legal move by Skype why is it working on the iPhone???

Re: Skype & Speakerphone Default...Damn iPhone

Not a legal move at all. Its a technical move.

The internal speaker on our phones actually does not have a standard API for developers to access, which means every phone does it in a different way.

How many apps do you know of that use the internal speaker at all? Remember, Windows Mobile / Pocket PC was originally designed to be a PDA/Handheld Computer, and only became a phone OS later. The original specifications for hardware included a loudspeaker, but in order to make it a phone, hardware manufacturers needed to add a second internal speaker for phone calls, that worked separately from the rest of the system sound.

It can be accessed by software, however each manufacturer did it differently so there is no standard... If Skype were to support the earpiece of an HTC Touch Pro, it would not work on a Samsung Omnia, and vice versa.

There have been versions of some VOIP software written with special support for popular handsets, but in general most applications just don't even bother trying to support it at all.
