VZW TP2 Can't get data Int'l but Ok in NA

Hello all, have the VZW TP2, currently running Energy 6.5rom, and the phone works perfectly in the US for both phone and data...however when I am in Asia the phone immediately picks up the proper networks but cannot establish a data connection...only voice/sms works.

Can this be caused by the rom? VZW global data center have no idea how this can be happening....the phone just gives an error dialogue box saying.."Cannot Connect...Dialed #777 connect for unknown reason check settings...blah blah..." VZW says settings are all correct...again it works perfectly in US....any ideas? Should I go back to stock?

Re: VZW TP2 Can't get data Int'l but Ok in NA

Since you are in Asia I am assuming you are using the radio in GSM mode.

That said, if you go to Connections and pick Verizon Wireless there should be three options in the modem tab.
"Auto Pick", "Verizon Wireless" and "VZW Embedded GSM".
In your case it would be best to select "VZW Embedded GSM", which would dial using the GSM modem.

The fact that your phone is attempting to dial #777, tells me it is trying to dial into CDMA data. This obviously won't work as you are using a GSM network.

If you don't have the proper connections setup, then you are going to have to go back to stock to connect. Be aware that flashing your phone while roaming is generally a bad idea. I have heard of people not being able to use their phone after a flash when roaming until they came back home.

Re: VZW TP2 Can't get data Int'l but Ok in NA

This makes a lot of sense to me. I do not have those particular connection options you mention.

When I go to phone settings, I can choose CDMA only, GSM only or Global.

Nothing specific to verizon as you mention so it is likely that this rom will not allow me to use my data functions properly. I assume by "connections" you mean either under Phone Settings - Mode of Operation - to choose (global, gsm or cdma), if I go to the "settings" tab and select "Setup Data Connection" it does nothing, the only thing that is interactive is the on/off slider and if I move it to "on" it immediately slides back to off and gives me the error that #777 could not connect again.

I've downloaded VZW's new 6.5 update and will flash to that upon returning the US, as I will be coming back to Asia in a month.

I'd risk trying it here but Activesync is not recognizing my TP2 via laptop as I think the USB ports on my POS Vaio aren't 2.0.
