SPB backup causing my problems

After MANY issue with my upgrade to 6.5 it looks like I have narrowed it down to SPB backup causing the problems.
My phone has been stable for 2 days now with no lockups.

What I was doing was a complete Rom upgrade restore and it would cause my phone to do all sorts of CRAZY things with the text msg. the weather app and other things. After I did a very selective restore with just my contacts and photos and none of the system restores the phone seems to be working again.

Re: SPB backup causing my problems

That is correct. Use SPB only if you need to restore to an image of the same ROM. Never use it when upgrading... bad idea.

Re: SPB backup causing my problems

I ran into the same problem the other night. There is an option in SPB Backup called "ROM Upgrade Mode" - in the user manual it says you can use this to "restore data after a ROM upgrade (change permanent software in your device)"

I ran the 6.5 ROM update from Verizon onto my phone, then ran the "ROM Upgrade Mode" and it messed up all sorts of stuff. The phone had a mind of it's own at times. So I reinstalled the 6.5 ROM and things are running smooth now.

Just for my clarification...Does anyone know when using the "ROM Upgrade Mode" is the right thing to do?

Thanks!!

I never use the rom ug mode.

I use spb bu a lot, but only to restore to the same rom.

Re: SPB backup causing my problems

Eh, you can have it restore without using ROM upgrade mode. However, that's probably not a good idea since it's such a drastic change in software, lol. Minor revisions in my own ROM, I restore without using ROM Upgrade mode and everything goes fine.
