Much better GPS in TP2 than TP1?

I've noticed a MUCH better GPS in my TP2 than what was in my TP1. More sensitive (TP1 would never get a signal unless I was completely in the clear) and MUCH less of a battery pig. Is this because the GPS in the device is actually better, or is it because of a different version of QuickGPS or maybe even a different carrier (was ATT with the TP1 and Verizon with the TP2)?
