can't sync after WM6.5 upgrade

I have just upgraded my TP2 from the UK vodafone site with WM 6.5.
ROM is 4.49.25.17.
I backed up with sprite, restored after ROM upgrade with Merge level 1 and activesync went mad...errorr is 80070008.

first it didn't see the phone..deleted phone, and activesync, adn reinstalled activesync. deleted the "windows PC" relationship on my phone and started from scratch.
better now as it starts counting my contacts, then says failed to copy "xxx" which is my first contact and gives that error.

Any ideas....please...or shall i just get a different ROM and hope it'll work.

also, my messages and call log is all F***ed up. it's still showing me the last call that I made 4 hours ago, before upgrade...and not logging new calls, or putting messages in the threads they belong too.
