Keyboard changing to 10key permanently

When editing the time field while making a new calendar item, my keyboard changes to a vertical 10-key. This then overwrites my qwerty keyboard as the default keyboard. Selecting another SIP and going back still gives me the 10 key, no qwerty.

I end up installing the cab to fix it..

is there a better fix for this?
