It detects which way the phone is facing and can detect acceleration in 3 axis.

Therefore it knows when you place the phone face fown and can (if set correctly) turn on speakerphone etc.
Depends on what you want it to do.
Mose usefull thing for me is placing the phone upside down in a cup holder in the car because of the charger & 3.5mm jack, it rotates the screen to the right way up.

So basically, it's not a huge software function in TP2, correct.
Not useful.

it is useful when you use it, like say you dont want to answer your phone, you put it face down...goes to VM...THERE ARE many other uses...

It is what will allow your programs which support landscape to rotate on their own when you turn the phone sideways. To say it is "not useful" is more your opinion. I for one find it very useful as I am sure many others do as well.

I find it to be useful. Opera & IE explorer screen rotation, in conjunction with proximity sensor dims screen during call, face down for speaker phone, etc... I'd say its quite useful plus it comes in handy for games that have G-sensor support.
