Touch pro 2 usb defect thread

So a month ago my PC stopped recognizing my phone.... No matter what PC or USB I tried no luck... Then eventually it stopped charging from the wall and only pc (but still would recognize the pc part, just charge).... SO I HAD TO GET A REPLACEMENT.....

Ive had a friend also with the same issue, and now Im periodically reading more and more peoples USBs are going out........ It seems to me this is the TP2 defect like the Keyboard on the TP1, except not as wide spread.........

So Question is.......

DO YOU THINK THIS IS BECOMING A ISSUE?, it seems to be more problematic as the weeks go....

I dont think it is a issue yet, but the more I read on it the more and more scared I am to see what happens when I hook up to my pc.....

1. for no
2. for yes
3. maybe soon if more and more have issues.......
4. never even heard of this issue

Re: Touch pro 2 usb defect thread

I think these USB sockets suck. They are a bit fragile and it's been the same on all my HTC phones. They do get a little loose and flaky with age but it does not seem to progress and I have not had to have it replaced on any phone.

Cables do vary and one will work great and another will be intermittent.

I also use Exchange so I only use it to charge and flash. But I flash as often as some might sync these days.

If you feel any resistence at all plugging it in, pull it out and check for lint and blow it out.

I said no to survey because I don't think it has changed and if it was that serious I don't think HTC would keep using it.

Re: Touch pro 2 usb defect thread

Voted no, as I had not heard about it until now either here or on XDA. I know my wizard had major issues, so bad that I had to open the whole thing up and re-solder the connector down.

Re: Touch pro 2 usb defect thread

Mine has begun acting up since late December '09; Sync not working until device soft rests, sometimes not syncing until I change USB ports/cable, dock station not syncing or not charging. However, I haven't ruled out other variables yet, so I'm hesitant to attribute the issues to a faulty usb port on the device or commit to a vote in the poll.

But, if this thread starts blowing up, I think we'll all have our answer.

Thank'd and subscribed.

Re: Touch pro 2 usb defect thread

I really haven't heard of any huge complaints about it, but I had noticed that the socket isn't as snugly fit to the body of the phone as previous devices from HTC. I also immediately noticed that HTC changed suppliers for the sync/charge cables. This is evident from the entire design has changed from piano finish covers and flexible wire coating to flat-black connectors and a more rigid wire covering. While it seems to be a higher quality cable, I have noticed one flaw that can damage PCB to socket soldering; the exUSB "barrel" is about 3-4 mm too long and stays exposed when plugged into the phone. This is a BIG no-no and it is usually the leading cause of power socket breakage on laptops. This is because the plastic body is designed to be a supporting structure flush against the body of the device with the socket to act as tension relief for the metal connector so the soldering will not break off of the PCB inside the device.

That being said, I have indeed been noticing that sometimes my USB connection will flap with the phone when I'm moving it. Not a huge nuance yet, but these problems only get worse and eventually cause the socket on the phone to fail.

I really wondered why the phone didn't come with the newly agreed-upon Micro-USB connector for universal charge and sync standard for devices.

Re: Touch pro 2 usb defect thread

I had this with my Diamond, with not having a removeable SD card it was very long winded to try to get it back to stock to take it in for exchange... I ended up bricking it with no way to get a good .nbh on it since the USB was dead and couldn't get past the tri-colour.

I'm hoping HTC aren't using the same tier 2 component suppler for the USB in my new TP2... probably is though

Re: Touch pro 2 usb defect thread

yes it is an issue, i've already had to replace mine because of those reasons. It started that it wouldn't recognize that is connected to a computer and ended that it wouldn't charge. Replaced it about 5 days ago.
