Phone as a modem... sort of

I need to connect the Mogul to a laptop and allow an application on the laptop to dial out (as if it were a standard US Robotics 56K modem). Sprint says they don't support this and HTC hinted that it has been done and pointed me to the usergroups. Anybody have any thoughts?

This is impossible due to the way voice is digitized. If you could get it to work, it'd be SLOW. Why can't you just use a normal data connection? Much faster, more reliable, and won't eat your minutes.

Can't use data connection because I need to connect directly to a specific device that has its own phone number. New devices can be accessed through IP, but the older units need to be dialed into directly. Motorola phones will do this through the "Phone Tools" application.

Thanks for thinking about this problem.
