weatherpanel battery drain?

I've had my Mogul for about a week and not had any abnormal battery power drainage. I've been using it heavily with standing usage and messaging stuff. Don't think I've ever seen it dip past 50% by the end of the day.

However, last night I installed Weatherpanel and after a full overnight charge and very little usage today my battery was down to 40% by 3pm

Is this normal or is WP unlikely to be the cause?

EDIT: The only things I'm running on it other then the default are X-Buttion, Device Lock, Total Commander, Google Maps, Vista Battery Gauge. Yet this didn't start happening until WP.

i saw this happen when i had the HTC home weather (same thing?). after removing that particular tab, the battery was fine, lasts 3-4 days with light use.

Few things.

Did you install all the hacks for weather panel?

2nd, Mogul seems to have issues with it's default settings for when the unit is on the network. If you even update weather every few hours that will usually keep it on the network all day. See the battery drain thread (also linked in the wiki) on how to adjust registry for power and protocols.

I used Weather panel for years including on the 6800. But as a few others mentioned it's a little unstable on 6800 and can cause issues. I finally dumped it and went with Fizz weather. It's missing a couple features weather panel had but it also has a bunch feature weather panel didn't. It's also very stable on WM6.

Oops forgot what site I was on. See the battery drain links at the bottom of this wiki page.

I've only installed the trial version that was on this page (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=7357) and ran the default settings with no changes.

I'll check out Fizz weather and that drainage thread. I'm exactly too attached to WP just yet to not try something else.

Thanks for the replies!

Thanks!

Just wanted to add on here for people that might be searching for a solutions. (I know there are many battery solutions out there but shrug this worked for me on my Mogul)

I ran without any tweaks with WP all day and had my battery power down to 20% by 5pm.

I did the following battery tweaks on my Mogul

1) 24-This edit allows you to see the duration of your Vision connection along with a button to disconnect it.
You see it in the bubble that is displayed when you tap the Vision icon.

Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Click ControlPanel
Click Phone
[at this point, the buttom grey status bar should read \HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone'
Click the bottom menu 'edit'
Select new dword value

Change the value name to "Flags2" (no quotes).
Select the 'hexidecimal' button.
Type 10
Click ok.
You should now see in the 'name/data' section:

Flags2 16 (0x00010)

When done, reset the device.

2) Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\AsyncMac1\Parms
type and value are
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1
Change to
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0

Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Irsir1\Parms
Default value type and value are
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1
Change to
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0

Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\PPTP1\Parms
Default value type and value are
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1
Change to
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0

Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\L2TP1\Parms
Default value type and value are
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1
Change to
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0

3) Disabled Beam - Settings > Connections > Beam > Uncheck "Receive All Incoming Beams."

4) Not sure it matters but i stopped using the internal messaging for gmail and moved to emoze.

Also noted that I did not remove WP. Right now with the same about of usage today as I had yesterday, it's about 5pm and I am looking at around 75% battery life.

Definite improvement to say the least.

I did the reg edit for "vision duration time+ disconnect button", however, I can only see the duration but there's no button for me to disconnect the network.

weatherpanel is draining your battery because the server it uses to check authorization is down. Look in the software section of this forum. there is a patch to download
