Mini-USB to 3.5mm Adapter

I have from my old phone a Mini-USB to 3.5mm adapter. When I plug it into the mogul, it dosent do anything. All the sounds still come through over the speaker. Is there any way to tell the phone to route the sound over the USB device at all?

What do you have plugged into the other end of the adapter?

It appears that HTC uses a non-standard configuration for its audio output. See the thread titled "Stereo" in this topic for more discussion:

BTW, I tried something similar - I have a USB-end stereo headset from Motorola. It won't work at all with the Mogul. The one supplied with the Mogul works fine. Same connector, but obviously not the same connections inside.

I think that is exactly what I have. It is a motorola mini-USB to 3.5mm connecter. There has got to be a way to route the audio this way.

It shouldn't be a problem to route the audio that way, you just need a different adapter. I'm told that this one works, but I haven't tried it yet (mine should be here in a few days):

Yeah, thats the thing. I don't want any more adapters. I already have so many, I just want this one to work if possible.

The Semsons adapter works wonderfully. It sits flush with the bottom of the Mogul. I use it with my FM transmitter whenever I have a long car trip.

Ummm....think about it

"Yeah, thats the thing. I don't want any more adapters. I already have so many, I just want this one to work if possible."

Its an issue of wiring...it isn't an issue of software or "magic".

This is usually an old school analog wiring job, none of that new fancy digital stuff. The headphone mini-usb will have some randomly different property.
This forces the audio output over the usb cable....

Damn, oh well. Thanks for the help anyway.

i get the feeling more and more that they want us to use bluetooth headsets rather than the wired. afterall wired is sooooo yesterday... (sarcasm)

Its not just an issue of "wiring"... or at least, not the simple sense of it.

There's actually an extra pin that HTC uses for stereo sound that doesn't exist on regular mini-USB ports!

If you look closely at the headset provided with the Mogul / Titan (or any HTC with USB audio), you'll notice that it actually looks different than an average mini-USB plug. Instead of both sides being a slight angle, one side of the HTC plug is a perfect 90 degree squared one. That houses the extra pins used for stereo.

Motorola decided to use some of the pins of a regular USB plug, whereas HTC added new ones.

They are NOT compatible and neither is standard!
