Water issue
My mogul was left in a cup of water. Everything seems to be ok except that my touch screen does not work. I have read previous threads about putting the phone in alcohol, but does this also apply to my phone since its only the touch screen does not work.
Any advice is appreciated. |

That seems like a rather odd place to leave your 500 dollar phone... Anyway, here's the problem... if you apply power to a device that was dropped into liquid, before it is completely dry, the voltage is very likely to scatter about from trace to trace. Water is conductive... water and voltage is a bad mixture. You need to get the battery out of that thing now, and let it COMPLETELY dry before reinstalling it. Even if the phone looks dry, WAIT LONGER. Water can't evaporate very fast inside the unit. Since you voided the warranty by dropping it in the drink anyway, you may as well locate a driver to remove the screws in the back so that you can perhaps blow air into the device to aid in drying. Basically it comes down to this. If you were impatient and were too quick to put the battery back into it, or plugged it in it's likely that the whole screen is damaged (probably from stray voltage) This is when you pray you have the TEP plan with Sprint and pay the insurance company the 50 bones to get a new one shipped out. |
Exactly I immediately removed the battery (right before I did that the screen went white..and I freaked) I then left the battery out over night. The next day I let the phone sit in the sun for about 5 hours, I popped the battery in and life was good..sometimes my the down position on my joystick doesn't work but whatev..

well i am using WD-40 on my phone to see if this will remove the water from my screen. hopefully it works.

best bet to leave it in front of a fan or in the sun for a couple days imo... and how do you 'leave' it in a cup of water btw? ;) |
I shouldnt have said that I "left" my phone in the cup of water. There was a little cup of water on the floor my bed and my phone fell off my bed into the cup of water.
I tried the alcohol thing, so the WD-40 is my last resort. If this fails I will have my friend order me a new one. |
I have heard of the rice thing before..but its ben a couple of days if it hasn't dried out yet I would venture to say you didn't pull the battery fast enough and the damage has already been done :(
