Yes it can. I would recommend going to a stereo shop with them in stock so that you can test them, becasue like headsets, you don't know which ones will sound the best until you use them. Otherwise I would go to Crutchfield and see what they offer.
IMO Eclipse and Alpine units are still the way to go though.

I got the Sony BT2500 and installed it myself.
Fantastic audio, even supports phone calls throught a mic on the front of the unit, however these are not the best quality. I don't care that much though since I bought it for music streaming. Its relatively cheap too... around the same as non-bluetooth units!

as an alternative if you already love your stereo deck/HU or want to keep it stock or you have a newer car with the custom center console(instead of the standard size radio) you can buy a A2DP enable BT car kit like the Parrot MK6100 or MK6000
primarly they are for handsfree phone call which will route the audio through your car's speaker, but these 2 models are also A2DP AVRCP enable so you can stream music from the phone also. I installed the MK6100 and I love it!
