Looking for browser to mimic PC browser (really)
Hello oh mighty geniuses of the Internet!
For the past 2 years, I have been using mobile browsers to access my company email. Company uses an Exchange Server and I did NOT want to get a Blackberry. They did have an OMA address that allowed text access to email, and I could also use Mobile IE and Skyfire to log in "as if" on a full size screen to see and read email. Company just upgraded to Exchange 2007 which REMOVED all mobile access capabilities (and they did it without telling us first:protest:). So no access to OMA text version, and the server recognizes that I'm on a mobile browser and does not connect that way either. Does anyone know of a browser that I can use on my XV6800 that will mimic a full browser so that the server won't know I'm on a mobile? Please help... I really don't want to be forced into Blackberry-land.... |
Re: Looking for browser to mimic PC browser (really)
Well I haven't done so myself, but I believe you can set up your VX6800 to connect to and download from the exchange server through outlook mobile. I know at least there is an option for it in the kitchen's OEMizer, so you may want to investigate that.
As far as browsers go, try Opera mobile and/or Opera mini. The new Opera mobile seems to take up quite a bit of memory while running though, and has caused me memory issues on my Titan. Hopefully you'll have better luck. One other option that I used to use some time ago is there's a registry hack for IE mobile to identify itself as IE6. I think programs like Schapps Advanced Config tool have the option to change it for you. I'd find the exact program/reg key for you, but I'm traveling on business and don't have all my files easily availible. Hope it helps! |

Thanks for all the ideas... I'll start digging around and see what I can find. Any other suggestions are appreciated (aside from nailing our tech folks to a board and dipping them in shark water).

Re: Looking for browser to mimic PC browser (really)
you need a webkit browser
try iris browser this thing rules it opens any page desktop version of firefox minus flash of course and it's preatty fast too(never liked opera my self) i do use skyfire when there a need for flash but always find it bothersome u always need to zoon in to click on links. anyway im sure iris browser will work for since i often read my gmail account using it not talking about mobile version. http://www.torchmobile.com/download/ IE mobile is useless |
Re: Looking for browser to mimic PC browser (really)
The IE Mobile in Windows Mobile 6.5 has a desktop browser mode. It takes a little to render things, but it hasn't really given me a whole lot of trouble. I've tried Iris browser but it constantly crashes on me so I can't give you a review of it.

Re: Looking for browser to mimic PC browser (really)
Best browser I've ever used on my Titan is the skyfire browser. Just like a browser on PC, and it's a LOT faster than all the Opera browsers I've used put together.
http://get.skyfire.com/ Best of all, it's FREE!:headbang: Oh, and you can sync your facebook and other accounts with your start page, I just open it up and I get updates from different rss feeds, facebook, and twitter. |
