Got an Alltel System update message today

"Update your phone May 13: Dial *228xx + Send, wait for message, restart." (I placed the xx's because I know it's different for some)

So what is this? i know 228 updates the PRL, but I currently have a 40048 prl and I like the way it locks on Rev A all the time... or something else I read on the site is that it changes programming to where your phone will not work until you do the upgrade.

Anyone found out more info?

That's what I was wondering... I'm only worried about it because I don't have a smart phone plan, I'm using the $10 a month unlimited AXXESS data plan on a regular phone account. been doing it for years and I hope it doesn't change!

If all it does is the prl then I'll just change it back. but the alltel website says will render phone inoperable without update.. guess we'll see by thursday!

I'm an Alltel user in Phoenix, and I didn't get the text message. I use a Mogul and pay for the data plan. My girlfriend (on a BB Curve) didn't get the message, either. Let us know what happens if you try it!

This is primarily due to the not so recent Alltel Verizon merger. The update changes your MIN.

Well of course dialing the numbers did nothing for me. had to call tech and do it through ESPT. just a MIN like mentioned above, prl untouched. no more worries.. close this pointless thread. haha

Although, I am the only one I know that had to do this. when I called the tech he asked if I was in Louisiana or east texas. so I guess it was only this region.
