how to get my contacts back
before i made my own rom using the kitchen i saved the PIM file to my storage card for all of my contacts, now the file doesnt give me my contacts back! anyone have any clues as to how to get my contacts from that file or how to run that file on my laptop and enter my contacts manually into my phone? let me know thanks

Are you using PIM to restore the contact file?

He doesnt say he is using PIMBackup or if he just copied and saved his pim.vol file. So I think that needs to be clarified first because we can accurately help. Drew is on the right track though and thats the way it should be done.
Hell, at least the OP backed it up first and didnt just flash and then post a Q trying to figure out how to get them back then..........LOL

i copied the pim.vol file before i flashed a new rom and then put it back on my device after i had flashed and it just doesnt work.. in fact when i put the pim.vol file back on my phone it wont even let me open my contacts at all

Are you using the default contact manager or something else. Even if you did not import your pim.vol you should have one there although it would be an empty file because of the new flash. With that being said, the defaut contact manager should still open as well unless there is an issue with the installation of that software.
I remember when I did mine along time ago I had to rename my pim.vol with my stored info to pim1.vol and then copy it over because my default pim.vol with no info was in use and i could not delete it. Once I got my pim1.vol copied over I had to soft reset, delete the pim.vol and rename pim1.vol to pim.vol and I hope that makes sense to you. Once I did that I had all my info restored.

right now i am using funcontacts.. even before that tho i used the default and i still couldnt get it to work.. i had copied it over like you mention before but i didnt try to delete the other one.. i had just simply renamed it maybe ill try that and see if that works!

ok i just got done retrying it and after a couple tries i figured it out. all my contacts are now back in order!! thanks a lot

Glad to hear you got it resolved. It is stressful to lose contacts and especially more if you have a lot of them
