Mogul: Any solution to GPS lock issues post wake up from standby?

Hi Guys,
I know that the Mogul is history for most. If however, anybody has any solution to this problem, please point me to it. I searched a few thread on this forum and xda but nobody seems to have any answer.

Basically, if you turn of your mogul while running any GPS software and then turn it back on, it cant get a lock on GPS signal till soft reset. I am using stock Sprint 3.35 ROM.

BTW, I have upgraded to IGuidance 2009 and its awesome. Extra featues:
1. walking directions
2. parked car locator
3. better graphics
4. new maps
5. telephone nos for all POIs
6. ***No need for GPS Gate.***

thanks!

I get a relock after coming out of standby. Not for sure where your problem may lie. I am using standalone gps but I think agps should work fine to.

That sounds more like a software issue than hardware. Mine will come out of standby and immediately find satellites again.

Re: Mogul: Any solution to GPS lock issues post wake up from standby?

That happened to me all the time. It would typically happen if I left the GPS on, went indoors, and turned on my phone to do something else. I guess if the GPS can't find a lock for a while it shuts down and you can't reset it without a soft reset. I learned to manually disable GPS whenever I don't use it or have to shut off my phone and go indoors and stopped having that problem on my Mogul for a while.

Yes, while the GPS app is running, go into stadnby, then resume and immediatley search for satellites. I have several apps that use GPS, the one I use the most is Google Maps.

Re: Mogul: Any solution to GPS lock issues post wake up from standby?

The only way I can get gps to work is to start Google Maps or Garmin XT Mobile immediately after a soft reset. (At least it is working, but kind of a pain to hit reset every time I want to use the gps.) I wish there were a toggle button to turn on and off the gps radio like wifi or bluetooth.

Try this from my post here:

This would be really useful if it works, especially for those people who can't get aGPS so they don't have to lock after backlight goes out.

Could someone test and see if these settings actually work? I am going to be busy tomorrow and won't have any time, but would love to see if it actually works.

If you don't know what you are doing please be careful, at least back up your registry keys before deleting them.

In the registry I found these settings for power management.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\Interfaces]
"{EB91C7C9-8BF6-4a2d-9AB8-69724EED97D1}"="Power-manageable display"
"{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}"="Power-manageable NDIS miniports"
"{8DD679CE-8AB4-43c8-A14A-EA4963FAA715}"="Power-manageable block devices"
"{A32942B7-920C-486b-B0E6-92A702A99B35}"="Generic power-manageable devices"

Each one of the {} strings are an IClass for other device including the GPS. The one found in the GPS was this "{A32942B7-920C-486b-B0E6-92A702A99B35}. When I deleted the IClass string out of the following keys, you are now able to put your phone to standby and the GPS will keep running.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\GPSID]
"IClass"="{A32942B7-920C-486b-B0E6-92A702A99B35}"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\SerialGPS]
"IClass"="{A32942B7-920C-486b-B0E6-92A702A99B35}"

Original instrux taken from here.
