Battery Charging Theory

I know the expert consensus on the Treo 650 was to keep the battery topped off, then completely discharge to reset the internal counter in the battery. This was with a Lithium Ion battery. I just picked up a Bluetrek Stereo headset with a lithium polymer battery, and the manual says to wait till discharged before charging. There reasoning is because the battery only has a 500 charge span. So is LIon Polymer charging different than LIons? I know, some manufacturers don't always give you correct charging methods...

treat all lithium based cells the same polymer just is a lithium ion re-designed into a polymer gel that holds a greater charge (hence the better mAh per size)
