How to stop mp3 ringtones from playing on txt mesg notify

I have the new ppc 6800 (mogul) i've had problems stoping the notification from txt msgs using mp3 ringtones. I've tried every button on the front including thumb wheel also tried using qwerty keyboard nothing works can anybody help????? I'm kind of a newb so take it easy

You could just choose a shorter/smaller ring for text messages. That way you won't need to stop them. Or just don't select one at all. Would that help? For phone calls I move the thumbwhell down and the ring stops making any sound but doesn't send it right to vm

It's a WM problem since people complain about the same thing on the Q.

You can immediately stop any playing ringtone by moving the thumbwheel up or down. Text or otherwise. I do this all of the time. You said you have tried the thumbwheel but maybe you have to move it a certain minimum number of clicks for it to register but I am sure that this does stop the ringtone.
