The best thing you could use is slingbox.

Well it's something you have to buy at an electronic store...then you can set it up so it can sling every cable channel you have on your home TV.

Or if you have a TV tuner on your Comp. you can use a program called ORB...

ORB man - nothing else.

If you have xp media center or vista ultimate all you need is a happauge card - look on eBay for the hauppauge 150 - they are dirt chep right now.

I watch ripped dvd's. stream music, watch tv and access anything on my computer. Takes a little tech work but you can do it. Slingbox is really nice too, I have a friend with it - watches tv on his treo on the way to work. But he can access the files from his pc. All file formats with orb and you can bypass their servers. If you need help let me know - go with ORB it's free but you need to have the hardware in your pc - cheaper than slingbox.

search around, i forgot the site, but i found it on here, theres over 180 channels.. and if you contibute a link to their site for a tv station, you get free membership too..

im sorry i know this is vague.. all i remember is it was a non US site, french im pretty sure.. all the channels come from other users... you can add all the channels in your area to get YOUR local stuff... but most of the good cable type stuff was already there..

def worth searching a long time for though.. i used to use it, but i just really dont watch tv enough
