Verizon Calls on DCD 3.3.4

So i just noticed that when I place a phone call my titan goes from EV to 1X. Then after the call it goes back to EV. Is this correct? Currently it isn't causing me any problems. I just thought it was a little strange.

This is normal. It uses the 1x connection for phone calls (voice data) and the EV is strictly for data (mobile internet).

I think text msgs can use either connection, because I have received txt msgs when in evdo only mode.

EVDO stands for "Evolution, Data Only" or "Evolution, Data Optimized" (depending on who you ask), but either way, the name tells the tale. The EVDO protocol supports data transmissions only.

So, it is completely normal that your phone will switch from EV to 1X when making phone calls, since EVDO does not handle voice transmissions.

is there a way that our phones can do EVDO and 1x Simultaneously? I've heard that this was at one point a capability of our 3g devices. My girl has an At&t Tilt and she can surf the web while on a call.

Nope. You have to nag your provider.

That explains a lot. I ended up getting a Blackberry Storm and per BB, they said that it was capable of Voice and Data simultaneously. Kinda funny how when I got the phone and tried it told me to end my current call. Among other reasons, I'm back to my Titan :)
