gmail

so i ordered my phone yesterday and they said 3-5 days.... but got home today and here it was... so started getting it set up.... voice command 1.6 works partially (won't work through BT headset yet) got palm threaded sms working... nice. I was excited when I saw it had Java already installed so I downloaded gmails email app....it starts lets me login but then says .....

"sorry, gmail will not work on your phone. your phone doesn't have the appropriate certificate to communicate with the server."

has anyone else had any success with this yet?? or any words of wisdom?

Thanks
Jason

So I found this on the gmail site:

Your phone needs the Verisign Class 3 public certificate with serial number 70:BA:E4:1D:109:29:34:B6:38:CA:7B:03:CC:BA:BF.

i checked the certificates

settings - system - certificates

but its not there

anyone know how to add it??

Will the reg hack listed in this thread help? One of the hacks disables the cert checking...I think

I think that hack is for unsigned CABs, however, you never know...

Gmail comes with free pop3 and you can easily do so in outlook. Why even need the Java app which basically design for regular cell phone?

this may fix MS voice command

http://www.randyrants.com/2007/05/wm6_tip_voice_c.html

you can find that certificate in Internet Exporer (go to Internet Options, Content, Certificates, Trusted Root Certification Authorities and find the one with that serial number) and export it to a .cer file. copy it to your phone and open it in file explorer to add it to your certificates.

If you log into Gmail on your PC using IE.. if at the bottom you see a Gold lock icon (in the status bar).. you can double click it and it'll allow you to export the Gmail certificate at which point you can install it on your PPC..

I did this for my Exchange server and it worked.. but I am not sure if it'll work this way for gmail.

EDIT: I just confirmed that you can export the mail.google.com cert by clicking the boxes at the bottom of IE.. mine didnt have the gold lock icon, so I clicked them all until it came up with the certificate box..

if you dont know what I'm talking about.. at the bottom of IE was 6 gray boxes (in the status bar).. the boxes are about a 1/4 inch square that are blank.. clicking them reveals certain things, one's for addons, etc.. one is for certificates.. clicking it and then click the "Details" tab allows you to "Copy to file"

Ive used the pop3 in outlook for gmail on my 6700 but because i check my mail on the computer and the phone would be nice to delete it on the phone and have it delete from the account instead of having to do it in both places....

Thanks sniffs for the advice will try later tonight.... once you export it from gmail do you know how to import it back into the phone??
