Ringer ID on Mogul?

I'm new to Windows Mobile-based phones (had a Pocket PC for years and a separate phone), so I'm sorry if this is old information that I'm looking to learn.

After reading through the entire Mogul manual online (my Mogul arrives tomorrow), I cannot find any mention of setting ringtones for specific contacts and/or groups like I can on my Fusic.

So, was I blind, is it there and not mentioned in the manual, or can the phone not do this at all (which would really suck)?

Don't think you can do on groups with out some kind of a 3rd party app like Photo Contact pro. But for individual people there will be a field for assigning a custom tone. The field will be in your phone book.

That's great news, thanks. I think I can manage without the groups feature, although I'll still have to look into the third-party apps to see if it's worth it.

maybe I am missing something, but why would you need a group ringtone if you have individual ones? to save the few seconds it would take to cope the name to all the members of a group?

I actually hate setting my ringers up everytime after a hard reset, so much so that I dont even do it anymore. I wish there was a way to save your ringtone settings (too bad it doesnt get sync'd with all of the contact info).

easy way to back up your ringtones:

save them on the memory card.

Copy them over to the main memory after hard reset.

pocket outlook *your contacts* save the target location of and ringtone filename assignments. No hassle.

Just copy your ringtones folder over.

Easy enough ..works for me.

I use the silent ring, with VC caller announce, so I never did customized ringtones. But yeah it is strange that the ringer selection isn't synced with outlook, wonder if that is fixed in a newer version of outlook?

But that doesnt keep you from manually setting each ringtone for each contact does it? I dont mind that I have to back up the ringtones themselves, it is the setting of them that is annoying.

Few seconds? Sorry, at the speed of my unit and the number of people I can have in a category, it's far more than a few seconds to set the ringer for each member of a category. Much easier to simply choose, for instance, "clients," and set a ringtone to that entire category.

By your logic there's a lot of utilities and features talked about on this board that are unnecessary. Yes, I can set each one manually, but I'd prefer an easier way. Is that really so strange?

Anyway, I downloaded one freeware utility (VipPimRingTone), but it didn't seem to do the trick. Anyone know any freeware ones that work?
