What will be interesting if Sprint is planning on an update to "unlock" the GPSOne chip, or if they are planning on releasing a pay-per-month java application that utilizes the GPSone chip, thus not really, "unlocking" the GPS for 3rd party apps?

Edit:
BTW, if they do unlock the GPS, then I'd be much less likely to switch to the GSM version of the Titan/P4000/68000, the Kraiser. Although the Kraiser will have 128mb program memory, a 3 MP cam, tilt screen, and second video cam.

I'm wondering when they say enable GPS - they mean pushing their $10 a month navigation assistance - not like using a sirf gps but using the AGPS that requires a phone call to be in progress to their center for it to work.

Yes, from what I have seen, the Java is just a similar app to the Tao Intent Midlet Manager or whatever it is called that we have now. Ask the p4000 guys the name, I just dont have it in front of me right now.

I guess the good thing will be that a built in Java app will encourage Sprint to include the 6800 in some of its programs that the 6700 was left out of like the NFL thing.

Nice stuff! Will certainly take a wait-and-see attitude on the more exotic stuff but a summer release for the Mogul sounds great.

Thanks for posting this e-mail phyrebird.

That was another concern that I had, but for whatever reason decided not to post it. If it is stand alone GPS, I would be extremely happy with that, but if it one of their $10/mo. deals, then I would be happy that Sprint included it, but not as happy as standalone GPS.

I believe the price has already been determined to be $549.99 with no contract.
