Internet connection

I just switched from a Moto Q to the PPC6800 from Alltel.

On my Q when you accessed the internet, it just happened. On my 6800, when I access the internet or Google maps, my phone dials #777 like it's a modem. Do the 6800's do that? Don't want to get charged for tethering cuz I don't use it that way.

Phone info:
ROM version 3.35.674.9
Rom date: 04/09/08
Radio version 03.37.20

Dialing to #777 is the correct action when connecting to the internet. You won't get charged for tethering specifically...but any time you connect your using your data plan.

late,
Coz

Re: Internet connection

Actually the Q did do the same thing, you just never noticed it. It will work exactly the same as before though as far as minutes, texing, and data. So use it just as you did before and you will be fine. If you have a Smart Choice you can use it all you want and not get charged extra for the minutes used on the data.

Now for some cool stuff to try out:

1) Flashing your own ROM. Try learning to play with BuildOS and Kitchen. A lot of us build our own ROMs with what is out there and it is great because you can get a learner, cleaner, faster phone with more software for free.
2) Unlocking GPS. There is a thread about super quick GPS locks for Alltel. Follow those directions. Also look around for the cab files to unlock the GPS for Alltel.
3) Flashing a radio. I went from the 3.37.20 radio to 3.42.50 and the difference in signal for my phone calls is amazing. You can do it without losing data simply by formatting a <=2GB microSD card with a FAT32 FS (a quick reformat helps), downloading the radio off of XDA from DCD, stick the NBH file onto your storage card and renaming it TITAIMG.nbh, pushing the power, camera, and soft reset buttons at the same time and following instructions.

I am currently on 20273 Kitchen, 3.42.50 radio, the QPST GPS unlock, and loving it man.
