Phone randomly turns off

As the title states, for the past few days my phone (not just the phone feature literally the whole unit) has started turning off, and the only way I'm made aware is when I hit the power button to see the screen it boots back up. Today it happened no less than 20 times, sometimes while browsing the internet, sometime while simply holding it, and other time while using it as GPS. It's gotten extremely annoying and I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this problem. Is there any chance they'll swap it out at a repair center, or am I going to have to call insurance, or better yet, fix it myself somehow? Thanks in advance.

First :

Try checking the settings in power management.

Go to start -- settings -- system --power (Advanced)

and make sure the Tabs are NOT checked where it says (turn off device if not used for # minutes).

What kind of ROM and PPC do you have?

I have seen some custom ROM's produce this fault and what fixed it was to flash to a cleaner more recent ROM.

Re: Phone randomly turns off

sounds like a overheating issue.. try (just for test) turn on the phone and place it in front of the A/C if the still turns off within 20 mins then u know its another issue.. but if not.. its overheating.

Re: Phone randomly turns off

He didn't mention any heat problems but if it was a heat problem he would also have issues charging the phone. The charger won't work if it's heating up, it will just flash the amber light.

Re: Phone randomly turns off

Sorry, I was away for the past couple of days. The ROM is whichever one was the first official Sprint release that allowed GPS...nothing custom or fancy. I'm referring to a Mogul, as well. I don't think it's an overheating issue, but most likely a wiring problem, as it mostly occurs when opening/closing.

Re: Phone randomly turns off

I had that problem with my wife mogul so i took it to sprint store and end up with BNIB so i recommend you to take it to store and tell them that you can make or receive call because your unit is shutting down all the time

Sounds like a plan. How long did you have it for?

Is the battery keeping its physical connection on the pins?

Re: Phone randomly turns off

Weedahoe: Yes. I did a ton of tests involving the battery and it was fine. Thanks for the suggestion.

So I went to the Sprint Repair store today and that was an adventure. I told the guy that not only was it turning off (and I showed him), but also that the keyboard was messed up, in particular the function key, and that I was having bluetooth issues. He tells me to come back in a few hours, and I did. I walk in and the lady hands me back my phone and says, "The techs said the problem was this program [HTC Home 6-Tab Plug-In] and so they loaded the new ROM on there and that should take care of everything." I almost killed my girlfriend for agreeing with her and fueling the argument, so I kept my mouth shut, took the phone and asked, "Did you even check the keyboard?" So I open the keyboard, and sure enough, not only did the function key not work, but it turned off in my hand! So I hand it back, refuse it, they go in the back room and hand me a slip saying my new phone will be there Tuesday!

Re: Phone randomly turns off

I really hate it when people tell me something is fixed or resolved and they didnt even check to see if they can duplicate the issue afterwards. Good for you for checking BEFORE you left and got home.
