chatting with Yahoo and MSN contacts by txting

I'm not sure if everyone knows that, or even if it had been discussed before, but anyways:
You can chat with your contacts from Yahoo and MSN messengers, or at least that what I was able to check, using txting that is useful I think when you do not have enough memory or you do not want to have a IM software on you phone!

The way I noticed it is by sending SMS using the messenger to the cell phone, the message will appear coming from a weird number, it is an 8 digit number from both Yahoo and MSN, save this number to the contact who sent the message and later use it (that 8digit number) to txt them back, and they will receive the message on their messenger.

I think this is useful also txting friends overseas, at least it will be cheaper not $0.20 like Sprint charges.

I hope I was clear enogh and did not confuse people :)

I really can't see why not, but try it, for the cost, if you have sms service then it will cost you nothing extra it is an SMS after all, provided of course that you do not go over your limit, and for the set up, just let any friend of yours send you a SMS from their computer through the messenger, and the message will come from an 8 digit number save that number into your friend's contact info under the pager/car number, and when you want to chat with them just txt that number.

this also works with AIM. just send them a text from your pc and they can text you back from their phone. aim uses a 6digit number though I think, and it changes from time to time, so you can only really text them back aslong as they start the convo. wish Trillian would hurry up with their mobile version :)

I tried setting this up w/my Yahoo, and was told by both Yahoo support & Sprint that those services are blocked by sprint.. :/ whatever the real story, I get errors every time I tried either setting up my Yahoo messenger for offline texts, or sending texts to Yahoo IM service.

I always use it, and I just tried it right now!! How did you set it up? and I did not need neither Sprint nor Yahoo support for that, from the Yahoo messenger hover over the contact then chose to send SMS if the number is not stored in your contact detail, then I think it will ask you for the number, and that's it write your IM and hit send. And for the offline message it works also.

try that and let me know.

Yeah! Not sure how you were able to text chat with Yahoo! It's no secret that Yahoo and Sprint have text messaging blocked for the Yahoo IM service. In fact you can even contact yahoo or Sprint support and ask.

However if you are able to do this for sure. Please kindly post more precise directions because I'd be highly interested in this.
Thanks

If the posts #1, #4 and #8 were not clear enough, here what you gonna do:
* open your Yahoo messenger
* if you want, add yourself as a new contact.
* right click on the yahoo Id and click on edit contact detail
* in the primary tab add the mobile phone number
* click save and close
* now click on the same yahoo id you save the mobile phone number to
* and click on SMS
* write your message and hit send
* wait a moment a message will be delivered to the phone
* notice that the message will appear coming from an 8digit number
* save that number to the contacts (same person) on your phone, I usually put it under the pager number
* and now browse to that number on the phone in the contacts and hit "Menu" (the right soft key) and hit the "Send Text Message"
* it will open the txt message window compose you message as you do in the regular txt message and hit send
* the other person, or you if you added yourself to the Yahoo messenger, should receive the message.

hope that is precise enough

let me know if it worked or did not work for you
