Re: Any GPS software that announces street names?

I have been using Telenav. I do not recall if it says the names - but it has been buggy finding the "GPS" signal.
TeleNav was preloaded on my SprintPCS phone and comes with the ROM's.
iNav iGuidance 4 (Video) (Has text to speech for street names, needs workaround to work with the internal GPS)

Found this in the Titan forum...

I use iGuidance on my Mogul and it does have TTS (Text to Speech) and says street names.

Ditto on that. iGuidance 4 is http://www.inavcorp.com/product/navi...e_software.php light enough on memory (never had an out of memory issue), works great on the Mogul (as long as you follow directions for priming the GPS (on this forum), using holux GPS Viewer and GPSGATE. Whole of the US and Canada fit on a 1.3GB SD card. I keep the main program in the regular memory and have it autoinstall when I update a new ROM. The program does not need activation (so no need to find the key or unlock it when you do a ROM upgrade).

I use Google Maps as am upto date POI database when I have a phone signal and am not roaming. Otherwise the POI in iGuidance 4 are pretty good. Well worth the $99 on their website.

I have used iGuidance since version 1 and have compared it to TOMTOM, Destinator, Pharos, Garmin, Navizon, Copilot and in all cases it has better voice prompts, faster response (i.e. you do not miss a turn) and is overall the best value for the money spent in the US/Canada. Europe is another matter as they do not seem to carry European maps at the moment.

Re: Any GPS software that announces street names?

the newly released iGo8 also has full TTS capability..
problem is, it runs a tad slow and sometimes crashes on the Titan due to our lacking device memory..

Re: Any GPS software that announces street names?

If you are looking at getting iGuidance, iGuidance 2009 is set to be released on the week of July 28th (just before my road trip of course, lol). You can preorder now if interested. Or be a cheap criminal and wait for a crack, lol.

EDIT: Whoops, looks like the PPC version is actually estimated for the end of August, my bad.

it only will work using the 1 female US voice.. so go into your voice settings and by selecting the US Female, it will automaticaly switch to TTS.. there are no actual settings for it..

Re: Any GPS software that announces street names?

If you can get ahold of Mapopolis, it will say the street names, but only in txt to speech. Mapopolis has been out of buisness with their maps, but you may still be able to get the main program. But don't know where you can get maps at for it because of being out of buisness....
