Crackling over earpiece

I had this problem on my old phone, but that's because it was two+ years old and the earpiece was shot. This phone is 1 day old. I'd take it back but it's my 3rd/4th one. Is there any way that there could be some other cause other than the earpiece being shot (blown out)?

Re: Crackling over earpiece

i had this happening on my mogul also. it would only happen when i had it in silent mode. it was a very faint crackling sound but when i changed the volume so the phone made a beep the crackling would go away. i just quit using silent, but afer i used the kitchen to upgrade this problem went away.

It's not necessarily a constant crackle, but more of a spontaneous crackle that is high pitched and only occurs a few times during a call, but it's very noticeable. Any chance it could be caused by the rom (DCD 2.1.0)?
