Problems connecting - Vista/Norton 360

I'm trying to help out a friend who has an HTC phone (the S720, but the same thing happens if I plug my phone in) and it's been a pain in the ***

She has Norton 360 and ALSO had Windows Firewall running. Flipped off Windows Firewall, but the second I plug in her phone, the computer looks back at me and, well, says NOTHING.

If I have the device manager open, I can see it refreshing the devices, but nothing shows up.

I ASSUME it has something to do with 360 (stupid norton grumble) - but I haven't had much of a chance to kick it around.

Any preliminary thoughts on what the issue might be?

Thanks!!

try opening windows mobile device center manually from the control panel classic view (NOT sync center) - this should allow you to set up the phone connection....

Also, have you installed windows mobile device center? (it doesn't come with vista)

I second this, a few times I had to start WMDC and set up a partnership before the phone was auto recognized...let us know how it goes.

EDIT:
I also had Norton 360 running on my Vista machine, I doubt that Norton is doing anything to block the phone, usually Norton will ask what to do (or show what it blocked) if it is the first time doing so.

Re: Problems connecting - Vista/Norton 360

Problem solved!

Stupidly there were 2 firewalls running, 360 and Windows Firewall. Turned off the windows firewall and all was good

Well, sort of. I had to fight to turn everything off of trying to sync with Exchange (Outlook wasn't initially installed, oops)

I guess Windows Mobile can't sync with any other programs for calendar and such, can they?
