Internet Connection Sharing with Vista

Hi all - I am new to the PPC world and am confused on this one. I have searched other forums but can't seem to find one close enought to what I am stuck on. I have the HTC Mogul from Sprint. I am trying to use the phone as my modem for internet with two different laptops, one personal, one work. My personal one is an XP SP2 machine and the internet sharing works perfectly on it. On the Vista one I can't get it to work at all. Vista recognizes my device, when I go to start Internet Sharing on my device, I tap connect, it starts to dial out, vista "dings" acknowleding something is going on but then everytime my call to Sprint #777 fails and give me that my username may be incorrect and to try again later. Any ideas/suggestions on this or is there a forum that already has this topic that I am just completely missing?

Any ideas would be great!

Re: Internet Connection Sharing with Vista

You need to:
1. stop activesync if it's running.
2. start ICS and then click connect.

It will say something like waiting for USB connection.

THEN,
3 Plug the usb cable into your laptop.

Vista should detect a new network connection and 'identify' it (negotiate your IP address).

Then you should be good to go. The key is starting ICS, THEN connecting to your laptop.

Same here, does anyone have any ideas? It's local only and I can't get outside to the internet.

Try enabling the advanced check box under USB To PC connection.

Tried that before. Thanks though Side note: PDAnet does work fine, but I'd rather use ICS.

Re: Internet Connection Sharing with Vista

Use MemMaid or a different registry editor and make the following reg changes. You can find a reg edit app in the Commonly requested & popular software.

InternetSharing
Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
Then Delete "Extension"="rilphone.dll" or "Extension"="isext.dll
then change "MaxCMCon.... from 1 to 0..
MaxCMCon might be 0 already if so its cool.

Re: Internet Connection Sharing with Vista

Long shot here but,,,,,,
Maybe try to connect to PIE first so you already have a connection established with #777 before you start the Interweb Sharing. I swear I'm the only person on the Geeks who hasn't had a problem with Vista. :^)
